Senior Mechanical Design Engineer: Design of mechanical components and assemblies for medical application
Mechanical engineer core team member - team tasked with redesigning electronics in legacy product. Mechanical design reduced fasteners, snap-fits saved assembly labor and reduced service time.Combined with electrical design, the project reduced 5% of materials and assembly labor.
Used solid modeling to capture initial design, then finite element modeling (stress/strain, vibration and thermal), and lab testing where needed for verifying robust design. Early development included creating and archiving FMEAs, DFM/DFA, component and assembly specifications, component/assembly documentation, and sometimes assembly work instructions.
Designed plastic molded components, living hinges, vacuum formed plastic, sheet metal (stampings and laser cut), adhesive labels and adhesive foam.
Continuously worked to implement cost reductions and cost avoidance. Worked closely with Manufacturing, Sourcing, Suppliers, Supplier Quality and Regulatory engineers.
Assist or lead resolution of design issues outside normal job responsibilities; (as needed). Crack in plastic boss was production issue - short/long term resolution implemented with no interruption in production line.
